WELCOME BACK!!

I hope everyone had a fun, exciting, and relaxing summer.  I hope you are all excited to join the intermediate pod this year in fourth grade.  We will be exploring many interesting ideas and topics in our subjects this year.

In Reading, we will travel the world exploring stories from many different cultures.  We will read an assortment of genres and investigate various skills that build great stories.  We will begin the year reading realistic and historical fiction.

In Math, we will work with all the operations throughout the year.  We are going to begin the year with place value through hundred millions (100,000,000 – WOW!!) and move into comparing and rounding whole numbers and money.  PLEASE make sure you continue to study all your math facts (+, -, x, ¸), especially multiplication and division.  Each week we will have a facts quiz for practice throughout the year.  So make sure you study, study, study!

Science gets really exciting in fourth grade.  We explore life, earth, and physical science as well as space and technology.  We will have the opportunity to investigate, create diagrams, complete labs, and experiments.  We will also utilize our school wide resource, United Streaming, to enhance our explorations with interesting video clips and interactive labs.  We will also incorporate a monthly science reader to extend our discovery with everyday experiences.  We will begin the year studying Life Science.  We will start off studying cells, the building block of all living things, and the move into classification of living things.

I am looking forward to working together and seeing the fascinating sights of fourth grade.  I look forward to meeting parents at Parent Info Night on September 10th.  We will further discuss our daily routine and expectations for the students.  If you have any question or concerns please feel free to contact me through the office, in writing, or by email (jsaxton@st.stanislaus.mec.edu).

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

See you on August 29th

Ms. Saxton

Believe - A wonderful school-wide theme! Believe in God! Believe in yourself! Angels believe in you!

Mrs. Sheaff welcomes each student to discover and to delight in the knowledge that grade four presents. It is an exciting time as you learn to balance your new independence with our class themes of respect and responsibility.

We will begin our year by learning how to be readers of content materials, how to be life writers, and how to think like geographers. Did you remember the “wolf ears” and did you read “like a wolf eats” as the writer Gary Paulsen asked?  Please “fall” into books this year and discover new genres and delight in the adventures of new characters and settings.

Reading in Social Studies is demanding and “studying” becomes an important homework component. Our books and Weekly Reader Magazine contain valuable information about our changing world.

May your new school year be filled with growth, respect, knowledge, and blessings.

Mrs. Sheaff
