February 7th was our 100th day of school. The kids had a lot of fun making necklaces using colored beads. We talked about groups of ten. 100 has 10 groups of ten. They received “100” glasses. We are 100 days smarter. We will be working on counting by twos and fives in Math. Money and time will also be introduced soon. We are beginning our life cycle unit in Science. The children will be making timelines to show their life cycles. Be sure to look for them at the Education Fair in March. We will be looking at the life cycles of a few different things. We will be looking at the plant and butterfly lifecycles. I have not had much luck with frogs but will give it another shot. Keep your fingers crossed. We are well into book 4 in the reading series. It is important to practice the weekly spelling and sight words. Keep up the good work. The kids are making progress in their reading. Taking a few minutes to read each day helps so much. Children should be studying old and new sight words daily. Spring is around the corner. Think warm weather. If you have any questions please set up a conference through the office.Mrs. Vollinger ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Language/writing - Unit 1 discusses sentences. Sections are; What is a Sentence?, Parts of a Sentence, and Telling and Asking Sentences. Writing is a focus of language in their personal journal. Some work has specific themes, some work the students can personally write. Our first journaling is a shared writing. In First grade Social Studies Unit 1 explores the school environment, school rules, workers, what they do, and schools around the world. The students will discover what schools were like long ago, and compare them to today. Mrs. Wainwright
